Compounding involves customizing medications by creating creams, sprays, or gels, adding flavors, and mixing dye- and preservative-free medications. Compounded medications allow for specifying strength and dosage, whereas manufactured medications only come in pre-determined dosages and strengths.
Compounded medications are frequently used for:
- Hormone Replacement Therapy
HRT, as it is commonly called, is a common treatment for women experiencing menopause or premenopause, or who have undergone surgery, such as a hysterectomy. - Pediatric Medicines
We offer medication flavorings for liquid medications that improve their taste, making it easier to get children to take their medicine. Many medications are not offered in doses suitable for children. We can work with your physician to identify the appropriate dosage and form for the medication to be prescribed. If your child is sensitive to some of the preservatives or other components of manufactured medications, we can compound a medication that is free of the sensitivity-inducing ingredients. - Pain Management
We can customize topical gels and creams to target painful areas. If you are sensitive to off-the-shelf formulas, we can customize a medication that excludes the offending ingredients. In addition, we can add homeopathic medicinal* ingredients not normally found in manufactured topicals. - Dermatology
If you suffer from rashes, acne, or a chronic skin condition such as eczema, we can customize a cream, gel, powder, or spay that will meet your needs. We can create a compounded medication that is easy to use and more effective. - Wound Care
Physicians who treat skin injuries and wounds often recommend custom compounded medications. Individuals with burns and ulcers can also benefit from water-based gels versus off the shelf remedies. - Dentistry/Oral Care
If you have bleeding, or mouth ulcers, we can produce oral rinses to alleviate these problems or to kill bacteria. Lip and mouth ulcers can be treated with crèmes and balms. We can also compound medications to treat dry socket, oral lesions, and other oral conditions. If you or your loved one needs a sedative prior to dental procedures, ask your dentist to prescribe a compounded sedative using lollipops or popsicles. - Veterinary Medicine
Your pet’s size and weight indicate the medication dosage to be used. Often, the pre-manufactured dose is not appropriate. We can customize the dose as well as the form. Many animals have difficulty taking tablets or capsules. We can compound a transdermal gel that can be applied to your pet’s ears. Should you want to use additional homeopathic medicinal* remedies, we can customize a compounded medication for your animal.
Compounded formulas are a great option for treating an animal that has a tendency to bite or scratch.
- Homeopathic Medicine
utilizes microdoses of substances from the plant, mineral, or animal kingdom to produce a natural healing response.
